Mount Etna

I can see Mount Etna from my window.

Adana Turkey

I am now in Adana, Turkey, on the Incirlik base. Incirlik is an air base located 5 miles outside the city of Adana, the 5th largest city in Turkey. Tomorrow my co-workers and I are going to visit the city of Tarsus. That is the birthplace of St. Paul. Insert religious comment here. I believe the local cuisine is hummus and pickled turnips.

Falling down a mountain.

We traveled south to Daegu for about a week, and while there, my co-workers and I climbed a mountain in search of a giant stone Buddha. It was a treacherous climb on the way up. We were all glad we had worn suitable shoes. The little old Korean ladies in flip flops and sandals that were passing us both on the way up and on the way down did not help our egos, and made us wonder if there was some sort of escalator on the other side that we had missed. At the peak of the mountain, we found ourselves in a cloud among people who had come to pray to the Buddha statue carved into the rock. It was gorgeous. On the way down it started to rain. There were times during the slippery hike down where one misstep would have ended me or any of my co-workers. About half way down, while discussing post apocalyptic zombie war scenarios with my crew chief (as is the custom of our interactions on most hikes), I lost my footing on the side of the mountain and fell to my death. Well, by “fell to my death” I mean fell to my back. I mean I fell backwards and hit my back on a mountain rock. And though the rain was heavy and the journey home long, my work colleagues stayed by my side and helped me down the rest of the way. I can’t say how many days have pasted since the incident on the mountain. The days blur together here in South Korea. But my recovery is near complete, and I have not missed any shows. Please forgive any punctuation or grammar errors. I claim the vapors as my excuse.

This video was recorded after our failed attempt to hike the “Haiku Trail” or “Stairway to Heaven” in Hawaii in May.  Enjoy.

This Picture was taken in May in Hawaii right before our epic Manoa Falls hike. Later, we tried to hike the Stairway to Heaven. It did not work out.
